Books & Wine in September was Epic! Let’s recap, shall we?

This past weekend we had #booksandwine featuring  Viola Davis memoir, Finding Me and it was just epic. The conversation was engaging, and thought-provoking with plenty of ah-ha moments. The cherry on top was being in the midst of a career actress who brought a first-hand perspective on working as an actress- in the Kenyan context.

We spoke about

📚How society’s beauty standards affect someone’s self-esteem.

📚 The expectations on women to become ‘mothers’ and the trade-offs occasioned by the choice to pursue a highly demanding career

📚 Childhood trauma and recovering/ passing that on to the next generation.

📚 The power of forgiveness and how transformative that can be to both parties

📚 Family dynamics when one person is more successful than the rest of the family and the weight of expectation on them

It is not #booksandwine until the wine is flowing in plenty. Our wine focus was influenced by the main character of the book, so we had wine from California.
